To provide relief to consumers, the retail sale of onion has been started from the buffer stock. The government has maintained a buffer stock of five lakh tonnes of onion for the current year. After Tomatoes, now the high prices of Onion are bringing out the ‘tears’ of housewives. In many states of the country, the price of onion has reached Rs 70 per kg. You can easily buy cheap onions. In fact, the Center said on Saturday that onion will be available at the rate of Rs 25 per kg at the successful sales centres of Mother Dairy in Delhi-NCR.Due to this, common housewives are facing a lot of trouble. You must remember that recently the price of tomatoes has reached Rs 250 per kg. Now onion is making me cry. People are facing problems due to an increase in kitchen budget during the festive season. If you are also worried about the increased price of onion, then there is no need to worry.

Steps were taken to provide relief

NAFED has so far set up 329 retail outlets including mobile vans and station outlets in 55 cities across 21 states. NCCF, on the other hand, has set up 457 retail centres in 54 cities across 20 states. This step has been taken to provide relief to consumers from the rising prices of onion. Hyderabad Agricultural Cooperative Union is running similar initiatives in Telangana and other southern states. Cooperative bodies NCCF and NAFED are already retailing buffer onion at concessional rates on behalf of the Central Government. Kendriya Bhandar has also started retail supply of onion from its outlets in Delhi-NCR from November 3.

Expectation of price decline

Bharat Dal is being made available to consumers through NAFED, NCCF, Kendriya Bhandar, Safal and state-controlled cooperative societies in Telangana and Maharashtra. The ministry said a similar decline in retail prices is expected in the coming week. Apart from this, the government has given a concessional price of Rs 60 per kg to ensure the availability of pulses in common households But ‘Bharat Dal’ has been introduced.

Kharif crop arrival

The government has maintained a buffer stock of five lakh tonnes of onion for the current year and plans to create a buffer of an additional two lakh tonnes. Due to these steps of the government, there is a downward trend in the wholesale prices of onion, but its effect is taking time to be seen in the retail markets. The Consumer Affairs Ministry said in a statement that Safal Mother Dairy will start selling buffered onions this weekend. Onions are being retailed to consumers in Telangana and other southern states by Hyderabad Agricultural Cooperative Association (HACA). The ministry has started the retail sale of onion from buffer stock to provide relief to consumers from the recent rise in onion prices due to the delay in the arrival of the Kharif crop.
