Economic capital of the country Adani Energy Solutions Limited ( AESL ) has launched Mumbai’s first 400-kV grid line to meet the growing power needs. An officer gave this information here on Monday. The new line of Khargher Vikroli Transmission Limited will increase the existing transmission and distribution capacity and increase 1000 MW power generation in the city.

Continuing increasing electricity demand

The city saw two major grid failures on 12 October 2020 and 27 February 2022 in recent years, stalling supplies for several hours. There was also a political uproar over this. An official said, “The Khargher-Vikroli line will bring an additional 1,000 MW of reliable electricity to the city of Mumbai as a solution to mitigate any such incidents in the future. With the commissioning of this project, Mumbai has a 400 kV grid within its municipal limits, This has led to increased import capacity within its power grid and improved reliability and stability. Currently, about 31.50 lakh consumers of AESL in Mumbai, about seven lakh consumers of Tata Power and 10.50 lakh consumers of Best, Apart from this, a small part of the population is also the customers of Maharashtra State Electricity Board.

Many challenges occurred during line laying

The project had been planned for over a decade and was delayed for various reasons, including alleged rivalry between the city’s electricity suppliers. AESL faced many challenges during line laying, mainly in difficult areas. But these were overcome by the use of technology and innovation. These include six towers built using heavy rigs on floating barges at Thane Creek and in urban areas, Height-related restrictions have been overcome in some places by adopting special horizontal configuration towers. Next on the list is another major power line – the upcoming Kudu-Aray line, which will help bring 1000 MW of electricity to the city.
