The National Medical Council (NMC); has become very strict about the exploitation of medical students. NMC had recently received a number of complaints of exploitation of post-graduate medical students in private medical colleges. It is alleged that PG students are employed by medical colleges for 18-20 hours without weekly off. Apart from this, they are not getting the amount received in the month. With this, students are coming under stress and taking steps like suicide.

Complaints from many states including UP, Punjab

The Commission has recently started an investigation against the Medical College in the suicide case of a PG student under similar circumstances. According to the sources, the Commission is receiving complaints from the states of UP, Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka etc. on a large scale where private medical colleges are exploiting PG students.

No assuming directions

According to NMC guidelines, PG students cannot be employed for more than 8 hours daily under any circumstances, But work with those students daily for 18 to 20 hours without showing in college records. Also, students do not get any leave। In the name of Monthly Allowance, they are getting barely 20-24 thousand rupees while this amount is about 1 lakh rupees per month.

Sign on false document

Students allege that colleges get students signed on false documents. College administrations threaten to fail them if a student complains about it. According to complaints received by NMC, several complaints are being received from parents. They are being investigated. There is a possibility that NMC’s team may also suddenly inspect some colleges to investigate cases.
