Putin has sought to make India a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council ( UNSC). This has started to breathe in China. The Russian President said that India, Brazil and South Africa should be represented in the UN Security Council and their importance should increase in making major international decisions. Addressing the plenary meeting of the ‘ Waldai International Discussion Club ’ on Thursday in Sochi, Putin also said that India would have been more powerful from year to year under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Russia’s government news agency Tas quoted Putin as saying, ‘ ‘ Countries that gain a significant base in international affairs only on the basis of their capacity and also have the potential and impact of resolving major international issues, He should be represented in the UN Security Council. ’ ’ He said at a conference organized by a Moscow-based think tank, ‘ ‘ Which countries are these? This is India: the population is already over one and a half billion, with economic growth of over ( seven per cent). It is a powerful country. It is becoming more powerful from year to year under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India is entitled to permanent membership in the UNSC

Putin said that India, the world’s most populous country, has been at the forefront of ongoing efforts to reform the Security Council. He said that New Delhi is rightly entitled to a seat as a permanent member of the United Nations High Board. The Russian President said that the UN Security Council in its present form does not represent the land in line with the political realities of the 21st century. In his address, the Russian President also supported the larger role of Brazil and South Africa in international affairs. Putin said, “Brazil in Latin America: the population is very large, there has been a huge increase in influence. South Africa too, how can their influence in the world be ignored?

Therefore, their importance in making important decisions should also increase in the international agenda.” Currently, the UN Security Council consists of five permanent members and 10 non-permanent member countries to be elected for a two-year term by the United Nations General Assembly. The five permanent members are Russia, Britain, China, France and America.
